IS THERE SUCH A THING AS TOXIC POSITIVITY?
Positivity should be about creating a safe space for ourselves and others. By failing to pay adequate attention to other's, or our own, worries, troubles, grievances or pain, all for the sake of "positivity", an environment can be created where an undeniably negative energy will exist and fester. For those around us, they can feel ignored, an air of disinterest and neglect can breed and emotional internalisation can cause sadness and loneliness to brew. Similarly, for yourself, your attempt at aiming for a more positive life can lead to your own negative headspace.
Positivity should be about helping each other through our trials and tribulations, offering rationalisation, without dismissing emotion... support, without toxic enabling... care, without patronisation. Through giving ourselves more credit where due, and allowing normal feelings to be felt and accepted as natural, we can enable a sense of strength. Through treating ourselves and each other more kindly, we can encourage one another to effortlessly fall into a more positive mindset - a mindset that is not only present, but sustainable too.
